Mr Joseph Field, who died at Sydney recently, was born in Penrith in 1844, being the youngest son of Sir William Field, one of the pioneers of New South Wales. In 1872 he became an official constable of the police force at Armidale, and played a prominent part in the capture of 'Thunderbolt,' the bushranger. In 1875 he joined the firm of Tooth and Co., and remained in their employ for about 35 years.5 |
