OBITUARY.
MRS. GEORGE SIMMONS, SEN.
Apparently in the best of health on Sunday, 13th October, Mrs. George Simmons, Sen., of Grassdale, Trundle, N.S.W., took suddenly ill on Monday, and being hurriedly conveyed to Advie Private Hospital, died in that institution about 8 o'clock the same night. The end was a very peaceful one, Mrs. Simmons lapsing into a state of coma before she died. The cause of death, it is understood, was heart failure.
The late Mrs. Simmons, who was 69 years of age, wan born at Allandale, South Australia, her maiden name being Margaret Mary Harmer. Her parents died when she was quite young, and she was reared by her uncle, the late Thomas Williams, of Moorak Station. She was married to Mr. George Simmons at Kaniva, Victoria, in 1893, and went to the Trundle (N.S.W.) district, where Mr. Simmons had taken up Grassdale several years before. Deceased leaves four sons—Ernest, Walter, George, and Leonard—and one daughter, Mrs. Noel Kramer, all of Trundle; and one brother, Mr. Harry Harmer, of Trundle.
The high esteem in which the late Mrs. Simmons was held was evinced by the exceptionally large attendance at the funeral. The procession of cars was one of the largest yet seen in Trundle, many people coming distances of 40 miles to pay their last respects.;Deceased=Margaret Mary Harmer6

Tribute to a Pioneer
Mr. Hilary Allez, of Trundle, forwards this appreciation of the late Mr. George Simmonds, of "Grassdale," Trundle: -
"The tall figure of George Simmons, one of Trundle district's early pioneers, will be "greatly missed," writes Mr. Allez. 'For many years he was regarded an one of the few wealthy farmers in our district. But in the early days, when the country was green and sour, when the scrub and suckers seemed to grow faster than you could slash them down, when there was a wallaby behind nearly every bush watching with eager heady eyes for everything that grew he knew what it meant to toil and battle to make ends meet.
"When he and his brother selected 'Grassdale,' Trundle was only 'Trundle Lagoon.' The nearest railway station was Molong. The nearest doctor was nearly 50 miles away, and roads, as we know them, were non-existent. He was naturally of a stalwart, independent nature. Thrift, carefulness, and frugality were his strong points. If ever mortal man obeyed the Pauline injunction to owe no man anything,' it was our late lamented neighbor.
"He was one of the foundation members of the Trundle branch of the Farmers and Settlers' Association, and a trusty supporter through thick and thin. One of the acts of the last weeks of his illness was to see to it that his annual subscription to the association was paid.
"Farewell old neighbor, till we meet again."8
